Surely you are already familiar with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, which increases the performance of applications that do not rely too heavily on the CPU’s multithreading ability by pumping up the speed of one or more cores if the others are not being utilized. AMD implements their own version of automatic speed-boosting feature on these two processors, the Turbo CORE technology. It allows 3 cores inside the processor to throttle up and increase their frequencies if the other 3 cores are currently idling, thus improving the performance of single-threaded applications. The clock increase is limited by the processor’s maximum TDP. This feature can be enabled through the motherboard’s BIOS menu.
