Performance Tests

Moving on to performance testing. We use SysMark 2007 on a wide variety of different system to measure their relative performance compared to one another. The Alienware M11x yielded a fairly average preview score for a notebook of its class. You can still run most application comfortably on this notebook, but what of its gaming performance and battery longevity?

Battery Life

We performed the battery life test under two different conditions. First, we used the on-board Intel graphics, while leaving the additional NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M turned off. Next, we switched to the dedicated GPU. As it turned out, you can use either one of the available graphics options and still get a decent battery life. The battery held out for almost six and a half hours on the GeForce GT 355M, while switching to the integrated Intel graphics gave us an additional 70 minutes of battery life.

Video Transcoding

Aided by the dedicated GeForce GT 335M along with NVIDIA’s CUDA, Alienware M11x transcodes our test videos with ease. When you look at the CPU versus GPU results, the performance is quite far apart.
