Which one is more important for you: performance or mobility? In most cases, you’ll have to choose between the two. Feature-laden, high performance notebooks are usually large and heavy, not exactly the kind of thing you’d carry on your shoulder over long periods of time. Lightweight portables, on the other hand, are easy to carry but obviously not nearly as powerful.

Truth is, everything goes back to your personal needs. If you want to run resource-hungry applications or play 3D games, then performance-oriented portables are the right products to go for. Otherwise, if running lightweight tasks such as word processing, internet browsing, movie watching or simple photo editing are your primary goals, then mobility would be the better choice. Still, there are some portable computers that offer a nice balance between the two aspects, such as the MSI Wind U250 right here.

MSI U250 2

The MSI Wind U250 is an ultra thin notebook that utilizes AMD’s Vision technology. As such, aside from being small enough to fit easily into your bag, it’s presumably faster than the average ultra portables as well. The battery should also, supposedly, last long enough to support the mobility. We will prove that later on in our test.

The MSI Wind U250 is powered by the AMD Athlon Neo II processor, coupled with 2 GB of DDR 3 memory and 320 GB of storage. Graphics processing is entrusted to the Radeon HD 4225M IGP. With this, you enjoy fluid motions in full-HD (1080p) video contents. ATI Stream support allows the graphics chip to accelerate certain processes, while the 12”, 1366×768 screen is comfortable enough for prolonged viewing without sacrificing the size and weight aspects.

Wind 250’s entire surface is coated with carbon-like painting motif, which gives the notebook some “rugged” looks. It’s relatively thin and lightweight, so you shouldn’t have much of a trouble trying to fit this notebook in your bag.
