My Passport Essential SE’s sequential read and write performances are good. However, according to I/O meter’s random read and write tests, it laggs behind the Silicon Power A80. This is especially apparent in its random write result, which is typical for today’s 2,5 inch hard drives.

In Crystal Disk Mark, the My Passport Essential SE excelled in almost all aspects, with the only exception being its random queue speed.

6 GB File Transfer Test

We threw in a real world test to see how the My Passport Essential SE performs in everyday practices. Two different scenarios were used in the test. First, we transferred 6 GB of numerous small files from and into the drive. The second scenario was carried out using several large files that measured up to the same size (6 GB). As it turned out, this external hard drive finished our small files transfer test in precisely 3 minutes. That result puts it behind the Silicon Power A80, but it’s still up to three times faster than an average USB 2.0 external hard drive.
