Review – GeForce GT 440: NVIDIA’s Fastest Entry Level Card

With higher core and memory frequencies compared to its predecessor, the GeForce GT 440 1 GB GDDR3 managed to score more points in our benchmark, making it the fastest entry-level card from NVIDIA we’ve seen so far. Overall, GeForce GT 440 1 GB GDDR3 is around 10-15% faster than the GT 430. However, aside from the increased speed, GT 440 offers no additional advantage over the GT 430 since it is essentially a speed-bumped GT 430. You can still play DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 titles with reasonable performance at 1360×768 or lower, but don’t expect to enable DirectX 11 features or increase the resolution any higher.

The GeForce GT 430 was originally targeted at HTPC/ Mini PC builders who also want to enjoy some casual gaming at times. The arrival of its successor, the GT 440, should provide these consumers with a faster entry-level alternative that could serve their purposes well. In our opinion, the GT 440 is also suitable to be used in gaming center PCs because it’s good enough for online/ casual gaming, doesn’t require additional power connector, and comes at a relatively affordable price (estimated retail price is around US$ 80-100).
