Review-OCZ RevoDrive: Truly an Express Drive!
Conclusion
With the data transfer speed requirements getting higher, SSDs are garnering more attention as a viable alternative to slower, conventional hard drives. SATA 6 Gbps (SATA-III) propels SSD’s already impressive performance even further, but for those who don’t have access to that latest storage interface, the RevoDrive can be used instead.
From the benchmarks, we can conclude that the RevoDrive should be just as fast as a SATA 6 Gbps SSD in everyday scenarios. This PCI express-mounted drive gives you much faster program loading times compared to ordinary hard drives, and that could be handy in applications that demand fast data transfer speed such as games.
The downside is that the RevoDrive has no native garbage collection or TRIM support. The latter feature is particularly important to recover an SSD’s performance level after file delete operations (which generate junk data, slowing the drive down). Without it, RevoDrive owners would have to accept the fact that their SSD would eventually become slower. OCZ has yet to provide a solution for this problem on the RevoDrive, if it can be resolved at all.
Despite its weakness, RevoDrive remains an interesting, high-performance storage solution. Enthusiasts will love the SSD’s ability to significantly cut the loading time in demanding applications, while professionals could employ this PCI-Express drive in their workstations or server. As long as the files inside it aren’t being modified too often, RevoDrive should continue to impress you with its fast data transfer speed.
Pros:
+ Very Fast
+ Configured in RAID-0 by default
Cons:
– No TRIM support
