Sony Handycam PJ5 Review : Camcorder, Projector with 3 Million (IDR) Price Tag
Camcorder Performance
There’s a reason why Handycam PJ5 is relatively affordable. This camcorder comes with standard definition video recording capabilities. Recorded video only has a resolution of 720 × 576 pixels. The picture’s resolution is only 640 × 480 pixels.
To see about the video capabilities, we tried to record a standard studio scene with different lighting levels. We show a screen capture of the recording below.

Of course, in the result, the level of PJ5 video detail is not as good as high definition video. However, the other aspect is the level of noise and censor sensitivity. PJ5 proved capable of recording fine until EV4 lighting levels, or about 40 lux. In EV2, about 10 lux,PJ5 can still produce images, although underexposed and noisy. The point of extinction found in the EV0 exposure.
How about the performance of the projector? Projector on PJ5 has higher lumens value of PJ10, PJ30, and PJ50. Even so, of course this is just a class of pico projectors. Sony doesn’t give specific data of lumens value and resolution, but our experiments show that the projections still considered clear if used indoors at night. Projection is more obvious if the room lights turned off, for sure, but without any turning off, projection is can still be enjoyed.
Shortest projection distance is 20cm, where the distance is the width of the projection was 7.5 cm. With this comparison, means for generating a projection measuring 1 meter, PJ5 should be placed approximately 2.5 meters from the screen. One thing that is interesting, projector’s color accuracy and contrast are very good, as it is designed specifically for photos and video.
Conclusion

Typically, JagatReview doesn’t review a standard definition camcorder. We don’t even do a 720p video test. However, the Sony Handycam PJ5 is an exception. This camcorder may only have a standard definition video recording, but other features are solid, with an attractive price and features. We love the shapes, finishing, brightness and color accuracy of the projector, 57x zoom lens, even a manual lens cover switch. The usage is very easy to understand, you can even connect other devices to the projector. If you feel you do not need a projector, PJ5 remains a unique choice for the prize.
