[English] Review – Intel Core i7 980X
MediaShow Espresso

Video encoding applications are able to take full advantage of multi-core processors. More processor cores mean more speed, and the Media Espresso is no different. Here, Core i7 980X is clearly faster than the Core i7 975 in both our tests. Overclocking further reduced the time needed by the hexa-core processor to finish up the video conversion.

One of the distinctive features that sets the Core i7 980X aside from its older sibling is the addition of the new AES-NI instruction set. As seen from our 256-bit AES Encryption test above, the new instruction set managed to give the Core i7 980X an extra boost in speed.
The number of available threads did not contribute much in this test, since the application itself seems to benefit more from clock speed rather than the amount of processor cores. In the upper diagram, which shows the compression test result without AES Encryption, there is almost zero performance difference between both processors in default conditions.
