NVIDIA GTX 460 SLI – Easy on the Wallet, High on Performance
Conclusions
A single GeForce GTX 460 offers a very nice performance for its price, and two GTX 460s provide an even more interesting value for money. Working together in SLI configuration, the pair performs like a solid, high-end graphics card, boasting up to 90% performance improvement compared to the single-card mode. The performance scaling we saw was simply fantastic, thanks to the more matured driver which helps increasing the points in some applications. A pair of GeForce GTX 460 effectively outperforms a single GTX 480.
Price-Performance Comparison: NVIDIA GTX 460 SLI VS NVIDIA GTX 480
Not only does the GeForce GTX 460 duo perform better than a GTX 480, it also comes with a more affordable price tag. Two 768-MB GTX 460s cost around US$ 398, while a pair of its 1-GB version will set you back around US$ 458. Compare that with the steep price of about US$ 499 for a GeForce GTX 480. As we can see from the test result, a twin GTX 460 outruns the GTX 480 in almost every test, so it’s a good alternative if you’re not interested in spending your money for a single high-end card. Of course, you must first make sure that your system provides full support for SLI. If it does and you decide to buy two GTX 460s, well, prepare yourself for a joy ride!
