MSI FX400: Excellent Value in One Great Package

The Arrandale series of mobile processors from Intel comes in three different flavors: the Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3. Right now there are a multitude of different notebook variants from each manufacturer that are powered by these processors. The Core i3 series is usually reserved for affordable lineups aimed at value-conscious buyers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the corresponding product would be underpowered. MSI’s FX400 proves just that, and it also offers quite a few extra features that increase its overall value.

From the above pictures, you can see the stickers describing most of the technical specification and features offered by this notebook. But first, before moving on to the specs, let us first discuss the physical appearance of MSI FX 400. The entire body –most notably on the handrest section and the back of the screen- are covered in black, textured plastic material that gives the notebook a unique look. Some metal base is visible between the buttons of the chiclet keyboard, which further add up to the visual elements.
Inside, the FX 400 combines an Intel Core i3 350M processor with 2 GB of DDR3 memory. The combo is actually quite ordinary. What makes this notebook interesting is the GeForce GT325M dedicated graphics with 1 GB on-board memory that supports NVIDIA’s proprietary Optimus technology. Thanks to Optimus, the notebook automatically switches on the additional GPU whenever it is needed, and reverts back to integrated graphics when the added processing power is no longer necessary. This interesting feature is usually reserved to higher-end notebooks. Aside from that, the THX surround sound capability can also enhance your movie or gaming experience.
