Review Processor Xeon E3 1225: A Powerful Alternative for Your Desktop

Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the latest version of the world’s most famous image editing software. We carried out our test using an action that applies “Photo Merge” and several filters on three TIFF images. Results are measured in the amount of time needed to finish the process. Lower figures are better.

This is one of the few cases where the Xeon E3-1225 beats the 2600K. In our Photoshop test, the E3 is 18% faster than its Core i7 cousin.

WinZip is a well-known file compression software. The Zip files produced by this program can be password protected using the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption method. Some new processors are equipped with AES instruction to accelerate this encryption process. Results are measured in the amount of time needed to finish the test. Lower scores are better.

Core i7-2600K steals the lead again, due to its higher clockspeed and more numerous logical threads. The performance difference measures between 9-11%.

Left 4 Dead 2 – The Sacrifice

Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the original Left 4 Dead action game. It’s built around the relatively old source engine which dates back to Half-Life 2 in 2004. However, because it is highly dependent on overall system performance, this game can still be used to measure out the performance of today’s processor.
For our testing purposes, the graphics settings are set to their lowest positions and the resolution is scaled down to 1024×768 to minimize graphics card influence on the final results.

Both processors are equally fast in this game, with only a marginal performance difference in each scenario.
