If you’re into quality audio, it’s best not to borrow an expensive set of headphone and try it with your own music. Doing so might prove harmful for your finance because, once you get used to better equipments, your ears will have a hard time adapting to lesser sounds from cheaper devices. Fortunately for budget-conscious audiophiles, there are affordable options available today, such as Sennheiser’s PX90 and PMX 90 we’re reviewing this time.

PX90 uses an elegant metal headband

Though some would still argue that these two units are pricey, for a world-renowned audio device manufacturer like Sennheiser, both the PX90 and its sibling, the PMX90, are surprisingly affordable. This is somewhat unusual for their audiophile line of products. Their sound drivers, however, are not to be underestimated because they are able to bring the original character out of your favorite songs, according to our ears.

Sennheiser PMX90 and PX90, Specifications

Each of these two headphones uses a configuration similar to others in their price range (between US$ 50-70). They do, however, have the advantage of a higher Sound Pressure Level. Here’s a summary of their specifications :

Frequency Response: 20 – 20,000 Hz

Impedance: 32 ohms

Sound Pressure Level: 108 dB (1KHz/1Vrms)

Cable Length: 1 Meter

Connector: 3.5mm

Form: Supra-aural

Ear Cup: Open Back

Driver Type: Dynamic

PMX90 adopts a sporty design with a plastic and ear hooks

The most obvious difference between these two headphones lies in the shape of their headbands. Sennheiser PX90 has a metal headband curved to rest the unit on the top of the wearer’s head. Its sibling, the PMX90 has a more sporty look with a headband that is curved around the back and a pair of “hooks” that rest on the ears. Unfortunately, PMX90’s headband is made of plastic that doesn’t look as good as that of the PX90, or, frankly, it doesn’t look as luxurious. Additionally, there is only one cable delivering audio signal to PMX90’s sound drivers, while the PX90 uses two separate cables, one for each driver. This could influence the sound quality, although maybe not by much.
